Styrofoam Recycling Services Vancouver

At Canadian Empire Recycling, we provide specialized bulk collection and recycling of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)—commonly known as Styrofoam—for businesses and industrial clients across Vancouver. Our service is designed for operations that generate high volumes of EPS waste, including packaging facilities, manufacturers, offices, and construction sites. We ensure this lightweight but bulky material is properly collected, compacted, and sent to certified recycling partners diverting it from landfills and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable Vancouver.

styrofoam recycling process

1. Collection & Pre-Sorting
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), or Styrofoam, is collected from commercial sites like construction zones, warehouses, and packaging operations. To ensure quality recycling, the foam is sorted to remove contaminants such as food residue, tape, or stickers. Only clean, white EPS is typically accepted.

2. Shredding the Foam
Next, the sorted foam is mechanically shredded into small fragments or beads. This reduces its bulk and prepares it for the next stage in the recycling process.

3. Densification (Volume Reduction)
The shredded EPS is fed into a densifier or compactor, where it’s compressed using heat and pressure. This reduces its volume by up to 98%, forming dense blocks or “ingots” that are far easier and more cost-effective to store and transport.

4. Transport to Specialized Facilities
These compacted EPS blocks are then shipped to dedicated plastic recyclers. There, they are melted down and transformed into polystyrene pellets—a valuable raw material.
