1) Paper Collection
Paper waste is collected from homes, businesses, and offices across Richmond through scheduled pickups or dedicated recycling bins.

2) Sorting by Type
At the processing facility, paper is separated into categories—such as cardboard, mixed paper, and office-grade sheets—to improve recycling efficiency and product quality.

3) Shredding & Pulping
The sorted paper is shredded and mixed with water and eco-safe chemicals to create a fibrous slurry known as pulp, breaking it down into its base material.

4) Cleaning & Ink Removal
This pulp is filtered to remove unwanted materials like staples, glue, and plastic. Then, using flotation or washing techniques, ink and dyes are separated to prepare the pulp for reuse.

5) Refining & Optional Bleaching
Depending on the end product, the pulp may go through refining for smoother texture or bleaching to produce brighter, whiter paper for printing and writing.

6) Drying & Sheet Formation
The cleaned pulp is spread onto large screens, drained, and passed through heated rollers to form continuous sheets, which are then dried and smoothed.

7) Made Into New Products
The recycled paper is finally converted into useful items such as:
